Xzenia Kutia

Meet Xzenia Kutia, head choreographer and dancer at Otago Dancers. Her extraordinary journey in dance includes

Blumhouse Productions & Netflix: Choreographed for major productions.
Disneyland USA (2016): Head Choreographer.
All Blacks, Black Ferns, Silver Ferns, NZBreakers: Choreographed for top sports teams.
Cheerleader of the Year (2008): Best cheerleader in New Zealand and Australia.
CityMoves Choreographer (2023 & 2024): Made dance interactive in Dunedin.

Xzenia has a rich background in Ballet, Modern Jazz, and Hip Hop. She has performed in movies, music videos, and major events, represented New Zealand at the World Hip Hop Championships, and teaches at Rasa School of Dance (@rasaschoolofdance).

Why Otago Dancers 2024?

Upon returning to Dunedin after living and dancing in Auckland and Australia for a number of years, I was disappointed when I went to a Nuggets Basketball game and there was no entertainment. So in 2010, I got together with other dancers (amazingly talented people whom I had previously danced with in the Highlander Cheerleaders Squad) and formed a small team. I love dance and performing and couldn’t be without it. I wanted to create opportunities for dancers in our city and to share the joy dance brings. 14 years on and I still love it!

Been dancing for over 35 years. and have trained at different times over those years. I’ve taught dance classes for 25 years now.

Random dance fact

Xzenia went to an Otago Dancers rehearsal while she was in labor!! She took small breaks during her contractions but was determined to get through the rehearsal before heading to the hospital. Safe to say, her son was born a couple hours later!
